Christine Thompson was born in Bethlehem, Connecticut, on June 23, 1890, and passed away in Atwater, California, on December 18, 1971.
During her years as wife of George Bloss Jr., she was quiet but forceful member of the Atwater Community. She achieved many philanthropic endeavors, one of the most important being the establishment of a trust that awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the Merced County area. The Bloss Memorial Scholarship Trust gives thousands of dollars a year to young people who are continuing their education and it is based solely on academic achievement.
Before she died, she also endowed a library in her hometown of Bethlehem. Christine was known for her involvement with children's groups. Many former Girl Scouts recall going to the Bloss house one Thursday every month to bake cookies with Mrs. Bloss.
The community remembers her with fondness. |
